태국 정부는 아논 남파에 대한 탄압을 즉각 멈추고

표현의 자유를 보장하라!

5·18기념재단은 2021년 광주인권상 수상자인 아논 남파와 태국 국민들을 향한 무자비한 탄압을 자행하는 태국 정부를 규탄한다.

아논 남파는 2020년 10월 14일 시위를 조직하고 국왕에 대한 연설을 했다는 이유로 왕실모독죄로 기소되었다. 그는 기소된 이후 보석 신청을 거절당해 석달가량 구금 기간에 코로나 확진 판정을 받기도 했다.

아논 남파는 범법자가 아니라 정치와 왕실 개혁을 통해 태국의 민주주의를 요구한 민주주의의 수호자일 뿐이다.

5·18기념재단은 지난해부터 거세게 일어나고 있는 자국 국민의 민주화 요구를 탄압으로 일관하고 있는 태국 정부를 규탄한다. 또한 재단은 태국 민주화를 지원하기 위해 국제사회와 연대할 것임을 밝힌다.

태국정부는 정치 및 왕실 개혁을 요구하는 민중에 대한 탄압을 중지하라!

[Statement]

The Thai government must immediately stop suppressing Arnon Nampa and guarantee freedom of expression!

We, the May 18 Foundation, condemn the Thai government, which is carrying out ruthless oppression against Arnon Nampa, winner of the 2021 Gwangju Prize for Human Rights and the Thai people.

Arnon Nampa, the winner of the 2021 Gwangju Prize for Human Rights, was indicted on charges of alleged violations of lese-majeste in October 14, 2020, and was confirmed for having tested positive of COVID-19 while in custody for about three months.

Arnon Nampa is not a criminal, but a defender of democracy demanding democratic reform in Thailand through political and monarchy reforms.

The May 18 Foundation denounces the Thai government that has consistently oppressed the pro-democracy movement of its people. The May 18 Foundation will stand in solidarity with the international communities to support Thailand’s democracy.

Stop oppressing the people who fight for political and monarchy reforms!
