5·18기념재단은‘2024 광주인권상’ 후보자 추천을 8월 1일부터 9월 30일까지 받는다. 광주인권상은 민주주의 발전과 인권증진, 평화를 위해 헌신해온 인사 또는 단체를 대상으로 한다.

‘광주인권상’은 5·18민주화운동 정신을 널리 선양하고자 2000년에 제정되어 현재까지 26명의 인사(공동수상자 포함)와 9개의 단체가 수상자로 선정되었다. 시상식은 매년 5월 18일 개최하며‘광주인권상’ 수상자에게는 상금(미화 5만불)과 상패가 주어진다.

5·18기념재단은 광주인권상 후보자 추천 접수를 9월 30일까지 마감하고 올해 10월부터 내년 3월까지 현지검증 및 전문위원을 통한 수상자 자격 검증 후 5월에 수상자를 발표하고 내년 5월 18일 광주인권상 시상식을 개최할 예정이다.

후보자 추천서는 이메일(gwangjuprize@gmail.com)과 우편(광주광역시 서구 내방로 152, 1층 5·18기념재단)을 통해 접수받으며, 자세한 사항은 5·18기념재단 국·영문 홈페이지를 통해 확인 가능하다.

Call for 2024 Gwangju Prize for Human Rights Nominations

The May 18 Foundation will begin the process of the 2024 Gwangju Prize for Human Rights from August 1 to September 30. The Foundation has been bestowing the ‘Gwangju Prize for Human Rights’ to individuals, groups and institutions in Korea and abroad that have contributed in promoting and advancing human rights, democracy and peace in their work.

The Gwangju Prize for Human Rights was established in 2000 to widely promote the spirit of the May 18 Democratic Uprising, and 26 individuals (including co-winners) and nine organizations were awarded as winners so far. The award ceremony is held on May 18 every year, and the winners of the Gwangju Prize for Human Rights will receive prize money (US$50,000).

The May 18 Foundation will accept nominations for the Gwangju Prize for Human Rights until September 30, and will announce the winners in May after on-site verification of the nominees qualifications through local verification and experts from October this year to March next year, and will hold the Gwangju Prize for Human Rights Award Ceremony on May 18 next year.
